Porsche 997.2 Turbo

The 2007-2009 Porsche 997 Turbo has been a huge success for VRTuned.  As one of the first companies to be able to flash through the OBDII port, the performance gain and convenience of the VRTuned flash has proven itself.  Now with the new 2010 DFI 997.2 Turbo out, more power can be pulled from that car too.  The 6 cylinder, 3.8L engine offers much more to gain then what is in the 500HP engine of the PDK or 6speed cars.  VRTuned is one of the ONLY companies able to flash DFI (Direct Fuel Injection) cars through the OBDII port.  All DFI cars require you to clear codes once you flash the car.  You can see the HOW TO here.  And of course like all VRTuned ECU Flashes, we provide you with the True Original File from your car as well as your new Tuned file so you don’t have to worry about warranty.  Not sure about the warranty affects?  Read Here.   So what will the ECU flash do for me… Gain 50 wheel horsepower and 54ft/lbs of torque!

  • 8.39sec 60-130mph time

The test car was a PDK running on 91octane fuel with an ambient temperature of about 95F outside.   From the factory, the car comes with 500 horsepower to the crank and our baseline done 4 days prior was at 435awhp.  Typically the Mustang AWD Dyno has about a 20-25% drivetrain loss when tested.  20% of 500 is 400whp and this car definitely exceeded that.  Once we flashed the 997.2 Turbo through the OBDII port, the car gained 50 all wheel horsepower and 54ft/lbs of torque bringing the car to 486awhp and 501 ft/lbs of torque.  This test was also done with a stock exhaust system which is usually extremely restrictive.  Stock exhausts generally produce alot of backpressure giving torque spikes.  An aftermarket exhaust would gain another 20whp approximately.  What you can tell from this dyno is that the performance from the VRTuned ECU flash gives a huge improvement in the daily driving rpm range.  Peak performance comes on at about 3300rpm and holds strong to 4700rpm where the power then stays consistant to redline.

VRTuned has been able to flash the DFI cars since the 2009 Carrera came out.  Now with testing completed and maps developed, the 997.2 Turbo can be taken to a whole new level.  The complexity of the maps and tuning of the DFI Turbo is much different then the earlier 997 Turbo.  With the stock car making about .7bar of boost,  the new flashed file holds a solid 1.0bar of boost.  Having made changes to both the fueling and timing tables, we are able to get a safe and reliable increase of power to the car.  With their Flasher Client software, VRTuned is reading a full 1mb of the file to completely tune the ECU. Other companies claim to be able to do this, but are only read 128kb and making global changes. The ECU flash retains your factory SPORT mode function, but also increases your boost under normal use. For those worried about check engine lights, there are none! For those running a high flow cat exhaust system, VRTuned raises the O2 levels which will remove the possibility of having a CEL from this type of exhaust. Once the car is flashed, the turbos will come on much quicker and the car will pull harder to the 500rpm increase of the redline. The overall improvement of drivability makes the 997.2 Turbo even more fun then it was originally. Since warranty is always a concern, VRTuned also provides you with your original file. With this original file you can flash your car back to stock at any point. If you go to the dealer, there will be nothing visible through the Porsche PIWIS system. VRTuned can program your vehicle no matter what country you are from or what octane you use. We have different maps for those running 91 octane or 93 octane and higher.

What are the benefits/functions of going with VRTuned compared to the competition?

  • VRTuned does not require the removal of your ECU from the car. There is no down time at all.
  • Your car can be flashed at your convenience from the comfort of your own garage.
  • VRTuned reflashing is done via a Client Cable that is connected to the OBDII port. The customer simply plugs the cable into the car and reads the file with a laptop per the instructions with the cable. Once the file is downloaded, it is emailed to the VRTuned secure server where the file is tuned and then emailed back to the client. The client simply uploads the file and they are done. Total process is about 1 hour.
  • Reflashing is done according to the vehicles octane level of pump gas and modifications are taken into account (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) to enhance power gains.

    Thursday, Dan of Vivid Racing ran another dyno this time with both regular and Sport, Sports Plus mode. He will post the info. I let him have the car for a day and that evening I picked it up with the VRTuned Ecu Tune installed, which they rate for an additional 75 hp. As I headed home in the low 90 degree temps I punched it.

    The car definitely has more power. I already thought it was enough before. Its now scary fast. After packing that night, I drove down to the Inde Motorsports track. The car ran good the entire way and no evidence of a tune was in place unless under acceleration. The boost seems to come on a lot earlier then before. The next day I spent beating the hell out of the car in 95+ temps. Two weeks ago I was at the same track and on the staightaway I was hitting 125 about 3/4 of the way down. This time I was hitting 125 half way down. At that point I let off and then slowly braked to get the car ready for the corner.

    The car is significantly faster on the long straightaways. I could have gone a lot faster as well but that is not my goal, my goal is to master the corners. But the car is certainly faster. There was no issues either as the day wore on and I drove well into the late afternoon. I was one of the few to drive the car there and back home. I was a bit concerned about the tune but the car performed with no issues.

    Just wanted to say thank you for a great ECU software upgrade. I have a 2010 911 Turbo with PDK. Maciej had Scott install the software to make sure there were no codes. My Porsche was the Black one he did a couple of months ago. I have a Fabspeed cat back and intake on it and EVOMS diverter valves. The car has only 500 miles on it and last night the weather was very hot and very humid.
    The car spun all 4 wheels until it hit 3rd gear. Top end was very strong. I turned 10.95 at 126 mph. Can’t wait until the motor has some more miles on it and the weather cools off! Should be capable of mid 10’s. I also had too much air in the rear tires(35 lls).

    Thanks Dan. You folks at Vivid have been great. I am indeed very happy with the tune now that I ran it up to 196mph and felt and logged the real difference it brought to the table in the 120 to 200 mph range. A real eye opener! I am also 100% satisfied with the improvement, yes, I said it, improvement in the day-to-day drivability of the car. Livelier, perkier, and more to my liking. My only quibble now, and at this stage, it has become just that, a quibble, is in the improvement in performance in the 0-60 and 60-120 mph ranges. Yes, 3 sec is fast, but it was doing just about 3 sec before the tune 0-60. So no difference there. 60 to 120 is improved, but only just. Please bear in mind that the 0 to 120 mph range is where we will be spending 95% of our time! 120 to 200 is just devastating for only a tune!
