Porsche 986 Boxster S 3.2L

The original 986 Porsche Boxster S was truly the start of the roadster war with BMW, Honda, and others. But with a 3.2L mid-engine power plant, the Boxster was victorious. With fine tuning of the ECU, improvements were made to the throttle response, mid range RPM, and top end power. This update to the ECU by VRTuned is able to gain 15 horsepower to the crank and 16ft/lbs of torque.

Stock Power – 252HP and 225ft/lbs
Tuned Power – 267HP and 241ft/lbs

VRTuned flashes the 986 Boxster S through the OBDII port of the car. With their Flasher Client software, they are reading a full 1mb of the file to completely tune the ECU. Other companies claim to be able to do this, but are only read 128kb and making global changes. The ECU flash will alter your fuel and timing maps to give you a very linear increase over stock. For those worried about check engine lights, there are none! These cars come with 4 catalytic converters and those running an exhaust system usually eliminate the secondary ones before the muffler. If you are running high flow cat headers or a complete straight pipe exhaust systems, VRTuned raises the O2 levels which will remove the possibility of having a CEL from this type of exhaust. The overall improvement of drivability makes the 986 Boxster S even more fun then it was originally.

VRTuned also provides you with your original file. With this original file you can flash your car back to stock at any point. VRTuned can program your vehicle no matter what country you are from or what octane you use. We have different maps for those running 91 octane or 93 octane and higher.

What are the benefits/functions of going with VRTuned compared to the competition?

  • VRTuned does not require the removal of your ECU from the car. There is no down time at all.
  • Your car can be flashed at your convenience from the comfort of your own garage.
  • VRTuned reflashing is done via a Client Cable that is connected to the OBDII port. The customer simply plugs the cable into the car and reads the file with a laptop per the instructions with the cable. Once the file is downloaded, it is emailed to the VRTuned secure server where the file is tuned and then emailed back to the client. The client simply uploads the file and they are done. Total process is about 1 hour.
  • Reflashing is done according to the vehicles octane level of pump gas and modifications are taken into account (Intake, Headers, Exhaust) to enhance power gains.

    hi

do you have ecu upgrade for 2.7 2004 boxster
if so how much does it cost
and how can i purchase it in australia

The gain will really be in the lower end throttle response, mid rpm pull. Peak increase will only be gained by the raised rev limiter of 500rpm. Ultimately about 10-15hp.

We dont give a warranty as the files, system, and cables have been proven 1000’s of times. If any issues arise, it is because people do not follow the instructions.

I just flashed the VRTuned tune into my 2004 Boxster S and the difference is night and day better. Far stronger at part throttle and much more throttle responsive. You notice its better all the time. I tune Gen III/IV V8 engines as a business and im impressed with the results. The car climbed up a hill in 6th gear and gained speed from 68 to 72mph on a hill that could only hold at a steady 68mph before the tune.

It has given the type of gain that you notice driving the car all the time.

I intend to purchase the upgrade for a 2000 Boxster S. I also intend to change later the intake to an EVO system and the exhaust headers to OBX, maybe also the muffler. Do I need to do a reflash after I put on the other mods as the engine parameters will change? Would this be at an additional cost? Is there a different program for 95 (RON) or 98 octane? We have botth available here but the car comes tuned for 98 – which is some 20% more expensive than 95 here…

Hi. I was wondering if there is an ECU flash for the 986 2.5L?
If not, are you working on one? Is it possible?
Thank you, I look forward to your reply

Hi There, I’m looking at getting the Flash for my ECU for my Porsche Boxster 986 2004, however my question is how does the ECU make the extra power is it from advancing the timing or additional fuel? If so will the fuel consumption increase? Can I still maintain the rev limiter in the software? Or is that standard to have the limiter on the revs removed

Just did an exhaust upgrade to my 2000 S (Maxspeed NHD headers, midpipe and exhaust) plus K&N filter. Now getting CEL lights (I can provide specific codes). Does your FLASH take into account upgrades vs reflash of stock?

I am installing a supercharger kit on my 2001 Boxster s. I am planning on installing larger fuel injectors to provide more fuel, but are you able to tune for the 4.5 psi of boost and add’l fuel/air that is needed?
