Generally speaking, when you think of performance-oriented Mazdas, you think of the Miata, RX7, RX8, MS3, MS6, etc. Unfortunately, the modern Mazda 6 is not something that is often modified. What Mazda was able to do with the Skyactiv-G engine is quite impressive. While pretty much production car naturally aspirated gas engines have a compression ratio of 12:1 or less, Mazda managed to make a 14:1 compression ratio work. They worked hard on making that type of compression ratio possible, but even with all that work on the Skyactiv-G engine, they still left some performance on the table. Skyactiv-G is almost entirely hardware related, as most of it relies on reducing cylinder temperatures to reduce the possibility of knock. Where Mazda left performance on the table is with the stock tune. Mazda’s tune is very conservative, holding air/fuel ratios and ignition timing way back. Luckily, our tuning division, VR Tuned, offers a solution to this conservative tune. With the VR Tuned ECU flash, you are taking the stock parameters the ECU tries to stay within and change them. The result is slightly more aggressive ignition timing, air/fuel ratio, and reduced limiters, as well as many other small changes. Of course, we don’t just make your car run super aggressive, as that would reduce long-term reliability. The goal of our tune is to increase power without sacrificing the reliability of your Skyactiv-G engine. Once our tune is installed, you expect a +20 horsepower increase and a +18 ft-lb of torque increase. Unlike some other tunes on the market, you can install this tune yourself with an optional DimSport device, which is exactly what the customer below decided to do with their Mazda 6!
