***YOU MUST READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE PROCEEDING***

We fully support our products, as well as the system, processes, and procedures that have been tested on many platforms for 1000’s of customers worldwide.  If you do not follow these instructions below or the instructions that are emailed to you when you receive your new file, phone support is available but may be billed in certain circumstances.  We cannot control issues pertaining to customers internet connections, computer abilities, other laptop programs, corporate security, etc.  If you encounter errors and would like advice on what that error is caused by, you can email porsche@vividracing.com.

Getting Started, The Process: Once you receive your VRTuned Flash Client Cable, follow these simple instructions to begin your ECU flash process. Make sure you view our instructional video below and follow each step as described for the read out process. If the instructions are not followed, you could risk damage to your vehicles ECU. The car must be able to be turned to the on position without starting it. Once connected, the stock ECU file will be pulled from your vehicle and sent to the VRTuned servers (except DFI cars see below). Once they receive it, they will alter the factory file and email it back to us at Vivid Racing.  We will then forward you your new Tuned file to be uploaded. The export process takes about 3-5 mins where the loading process can take 5 mins.  These times can vary, however anything over 20 mins means there is a issue with the equipment or connection.  The new file will be sent to you within 24-48 hours (up to 72 hours for DFI cars) during business hours of VRTuned.  Business hours are Mon – Fri, 8am to 5pm EST.

There is NO WARRANTY on VRTuned ECU Flashes.  All files are good working files that have been rigorously tested and used in cars worldwide.  Please understand that mechanical issues, improper performance part combinations, not following the directions below, and “Butt Dyno” reactions are not our responsibilty.  Once you connect the cable to your car, that cable is locked to your vehicle and there is no refunds or returns.  The ECU flash service must be used within 30 days of purchase.  After 30 days the flash purchase cannot be cancelled or refunded.  Please search for questions and reviews on Planet-9.com or 6speedonline.com.

You MUST enter at the end of the read out the following information in the Special Comments/Mods Box: Name, Email, Year, Transmission Type, Model, Pump Gas Octane Used, Modifications. If this is not inputted, you will not receive a file back.  If you forgot to do it, then you need to re-read it out again.

Required to flash: Client Cable, Internet connection, Windows based laptop computer (plugged in), Battery Charger, WinZip, intermediate computer knowledge. Please download and save the .msi file below that pertains to your vehicle. Once it has downloaded, it will ask you to RUN the file and install it on your computer. You may see a window requiring you to download .NET Framework. If you do not have the Microsoft .NET Framework, you will need to download it. Once everything is installed, it will automatically setup the drivers when you plug the cable in and you will be good to run the program.

Customers with the new Intel ICore I3, I5, I7 processors, do not install Durametric or Durametric drivers as this will cause the flash client to not work.  After the read and write process is complete, then you can install Durametric.  Windows XP, Vista, or 7 have all been tested.  Mac users can boot their computers up in Parallels/Boot Camp to act like a PC and the flash client will run.  You must have a minimum of 3GB of ram to flash you vehicle.  A strong wireless internet connection or LAN line is required.  Please make sure to disable ANY antivirus software and screensavers for the reading out and flashing process.

Now the Instructions:

1. Read the above paragraphs again!  Once ready, download and install the Flasher Client which allows you to connect to the vehicle.  All Vehicles Download Here 997.2 GT3 and 2.9L 987 Download Here*.

*DFI cars will not connect to VRTuned servers.  It will pop up an error saying that it could not connect, this is OK.  It will export the file and ask you to save it to your desktop.  Once you save it, you will then need to email it to VRTuned Tuning here.  Once you receive the file back from VRTuned, follow their instructions.

2. Once the download has completed and installed, plug in the cable to the USB port on the laptop and let the computer install the drivers. Should it ask then say yes and proceed.  Once completed you should have an icon on your desktop with a picture of Keys and it says “Flasher Client”.

3. Connect the OBDII side to the car and then put the key into the ignition and turn your car to the ON position so all the dash lights are on.

4. Launch the Flasher Client by double clicking it from your desktop. (See images below for the process.)  After it reads out the car, you will get to the “Comments ” field.  Fill in the information as listed boldly above and below, THIS IS REQUIRED.  If you do not see a NEXT bottom like in screenshot 1 below, then go to your Control Panel, Display, and change your DPI setting to the opposite of what you have now.   Reading out the car will not damage the ECU, however writing back to the car and not following the instructions can damage the ECU.

5. Once you press FINISHED, the file will then upload and the process is complete.  There is no confirmation.  If it reaches the finished stage, it is completed.  If for some reason it will not upload and asks to save to your desktop, you must reread the car out.  Except for 2009+ DFI cars, the file must be sent to VRTuned servers.  You can shut everything off and drive your car like normal while you wait for the file to be emailed back.  This process takes about 24-48 hours depending on when you do the read out.

6. VRTuned will email you back your new tuned and original file (DFI cars original is sent upon request after the flash is complete) to the email you put in the comments box.  On this email will be a zip file that you will need to unzip and will include really simple instructions (see below) to load back to your car.  If you don’t unzip the file as instructed and try to load it to your car, you will damage the ECU.

NOTE: You MUST FOLLOW the instructions precisely or risk damage to your ECU.  If during the writing process of the new tuned file there is any interuption in internet signal, screensaver, virus scanner, or battery power, this can and will damage your ECU.  If the writing process is hung up and taking longer then normal, there is a issue with the writing process.  You can attempt to cycle the key and try again.  Any failure to follow the instructions and use the recommended and proper setup could fry your ECU.  If this occurs and the car does not start, you will then have to remove the ECU from the car and send it to VRTuned for repair.  This charge is anywhere from $200-$500.  If you did not fill in the comments box information, you will need to reread out your vehicle.  Finally, if you had ANY major service done to your car by the Porsche dealer and they connected with the PIWIS factory scan tool to reprogram your car, DO NOT reload your tuned file.  You will need to reread out your car to receive a new file.  Please note in the comments box this when you follow the instructions.

7. If you incur any issues, please contact us for Support.

You MUST enter at the end of the read out the following information in the Special Comments/Mods Box:  Name, Email, Year, Transmission Type, Model, Pump Gas Octane Used, Modifications.  If this is not inputted, you will not receive a file back.

——————————————————————————–

Now here is how you write the file back to the car once you receive it via Email.

For All NON DFI Cars 2000-2008, when you receive your new Tuned file back via email, Follow these directions CAREFULLY!

Download the files to Your Desktop! And Unzip!!!!!! Anything other than this will damage the DME! Do not run in outlook or any other mail. Assuming they are Unzipped will cost you a DME. They HAVE TO BE UNZIPPED and on your Desktop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unzipped would be that there is NO zipper on ANY files that you would click on to get to the Tuned or Original file.  DO NOT USE AN AIRCARD.

Make sure that you UNZIP them in the computer that will be doing the flashing the program will fail if they are not!!!. DO NOT unzip them and re-send them in an Email! They can get corrupted!

1. Place the car on a battery charger of at least 10amps and up to 40amps, the fans will run while programming. This is due to the CAN line break in the DME and normal for the 987 and 997 cars. The battery must also be fully charged before any programming is started !!!! A car that has been sitting for a couple of weeks would not have a fully charged battery.
2.Plug the Laptop is in so that the battery is charging while programming, should you not do this the computer can shut down and cause damage to the DME.
3. Make sure that your computer is booted up in XP with No anti spy ware, IM or anti virus running These programs can launch at any time.
4. Check to make sure you have an Internet connection by checking a link to Http://www.VRTuned.us
5. Plug the cable into the laptop and then the OBD2 port or also called the diagnostic port and then turn on the ignition. MAKE SURE it is fully plugged into the OBD2 port! DO NOT bump the cable while programming! In fact DO not sit in the car. Place the laptop on the seat and plug in the cable.
6. Double click on the Tuned file that you downloaded.
7. Do not change to slow, keep the program rate at fast as it defaults.
8. The program will start and run, you can watch the status bar on the bottom. This will take about 5 minutes. DO NOT open any other software or re-click start etc.
9. The program will say “Finished and cycle the key ” when done.
10. At this point turn the key off, unplug the cable and start the car.
11. Enjoy and make sure to email us pictures and your review!  porsche@vividracing.com

DFI CARS from 2009 and Up, Read Here!

**The car may go into limp Mode**
1. Flash the car as described below this section and then follow these steps.
When start the car it may go into limp mode. When the car is in this mode it will start however “Reduced Engine Power” will display. DO NOT! flash the car again as the flash was done correctly yet the faults have to be eliminated and the TB adapted. Follow these steps to clear them.
1. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Durametric 6.1.0.2 or higher.
2. Plug the cable into the car and laptop and turn the key on yet DO NOT START.
3. Launch the Durametric software and then go into the DME or engine control unit.
4. Select “Basic Settings” and then accept terms and go forward.
5. Turn on and start read if the TB adaption doesn’t start. You may have to start over if the key has been on for a bit.
6. When the 14 is obtained in the bottom box this is done and exit this section
7. Go to the left top of the Durametric software after connecting to the car with version 6.xx . You will find” Erase all faults” click this.
8. When completed exit and start the car.
Basically this is normal and happens even when the Dealer flashes a DFI car. The faults have to be eliminated for it to run.

If after you clear the codes and the car is still in limp mode, you must leave the car parked for appx 10 hours without cycling the key and the car will reset itself.  Everytime you turn the key on to see if it starts, the ECU internal timer starts again.  We highly suggest flashing your vehicle at home.
