To say the AMG GT is a bad-ass car would be an understatement. It’s the second sports car developed entirely in-house by Mercedes-AMG. It offered a massive amount of performance and luxury. Of course, people always want more, so Mercedes released the AMG GT R in 2017 as a high-performance version of the already high-performance GT. Outputting 585 horsepower and 516 ft-lbs, you would think enthusiasts would be satisfied with the performance of the AMG GT R, but there is always room for improvement. Thanks to Mercedes’ use of two turbos on the AMG GT, squeezing more power out of it is pretty easy. The best way to get extra power out of any turbocharged engine is with an ECU tune. Modern turbocharged engines have an ECU which controls everything the engine does. With an ECU tune, you can increase boost, fine-tune the air/fuel ratios, ignition timing, throttle response, and a bunch of other stuff. Our tuning division, VR Tuned, has already developed a solid tune for AMG GT, so the AMG GT R was the next step. Luckily the location of the ECU on the GT R is super easy to get to, which makes the tuning process extremely easy. Once the ECU has been popped open, and the new tune file has been installed, you can expect around 642 horsepower and 627 ft-lbs of torque, representing peak gains of 57 horsepower and 111 ft-lbs of torque! On top of all that power, the throttle response is greatly improved.
